Before and After

As the skin ages, it begins to lose some of the collagen, elastin and fat that keeps it looking sag-free and youthful. With less support than in the past, lines and wrinkles will start to appear and you may notice that your skin feels lax compared to a few years ago.

We use Dermal Fillers from leading brands that contain a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, a natural protein within the connective cells of your skin. By putting hyaluronic acid back into your skin, it acts as a cushion to gently fill out your lines and wrinkles, and create youthful volume.

We have people coming in to Therapy House for Dermal Fillers from Blackpool, Preston and all over Lancashire.

What issues can dermal fillers be used to treat?

Dermal fillers are effective for improving the appearance of static lines and wrinkles typically caused by a loss of volume and skin ageing. The following areas may benefit from treatment:

Cheeks:
We all begin to lose our natural stores of hyaluronic acid, elastin and collagen from a surprisingly young age. Couple this with the fact that the fat pads in our cheeks begin to move downwards with gravity, and our cheeks can take on a hollow, ageing appearance. We can use dermal fillers to give back some of the roundness and definition associated with younger skin.
Chin augmentation:
We can use dermal fillers to add definition to your chin to create a more youthful appearance. In addition to dermal fillers, or instead of, we can also use wrinkle reduction injections to prevent your chin from dimpling – a problem that is often more visible when a person is crying.
Crow’s feet:
If you have deep wrinkles extending from the corners of your eyes even when your face is at rest, then dermal fillers may be a solution to fill and smooth out the appearance of this lines to make them less visible.
Décolletage:
The décolletage is an area of the body that often shows a loss of elasticity and the effects of sun damage. The skin in the chest area can begin to look thinner, wrinkled and even emphasise your neck bands. For many people, it’s the neck and décolletage that gives away their age. Dermal fillers can be used to create volume and smooth out the décolletage area.
Frown lines:
If you have vertical frown lines that look like a number ‘11’ even when your forehead is relaxed, you may feel that they are making you cross and unapproachable. Dermal fillers can noticeably improve the appearance of these deep lines.
Hands:
Even with daily care and attention, your hands may well be showing the signs of ageing. Skin laxity and a loss of volume can make your hands look wirier and more wrinkled than a few years ago, giving away your true age. Using small quantities of dermal fillers in your hands, we can restore the youthful definition and hide the veins and underlying structure that are more prominent in older hands.
Lips:
If you’ve always had naturally thin lips or you’ve noticed that your lips have recently lost some of their previous definition, dermal fillers offer a proven way to enhance your lip shape. We take a measured approach to add volume without exaggerating your lips unnaturally.
Marionette lines:
Located just below the corners of the mouth, marionette lines get their name because they look like the deep grooves on either side of a marionette puppet’s mouth. If you have visible marionette lines, it can make you look sad or angry even when your face is relaxed. Again, we can use dermal fillers to fill these lines.
Nasolabial fold:
If you have deep ‘smile’ lines that run from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth and are visible all of the time, they can be addressed using dermal fillers to minimise the appearance of these ageing static lines.
Nose:
For anyone wanting to change the shape of their nose without surgery, dermal fillers may be a suitable option. We can use dermal fillers to create symmetry and make subtle enhancements to your nose.
Smoker’s lines:
So-called smoker’s line are the short vertical lines that can cut into your lip line and cause lipstick to bleed. Although they’re more common in smokers thanks to the repeated action of pursing the lips around a cigarette, anyone can get smoker’s lines in reality. Dermal fillers can be used to smooth and fill out these lines, creating a softer, younger-looking appearance and better lip definition.
8-point lift:
The 8-point lift is an exciting treatment where we use dermal fillers at eight key points of your face to address a number of lines and wrinkles, and restore lost volume. With an 8-point lift, we can take a more holistic approach to create better symmetry and balance, and enhance the overall appearance of your features. This treatment can achieve a subtle but effective face lift without the need for surgery.

How quickly should I see the results?

If you decide to have a dermal fillers treatment, you should see the results straight away. We will usually get you to look in a mirror as we carry out the treatment, so you can give your feedback throughout the process. You may notice a bit of swelling immediately after the procedure, but this should go down itself within a few hours.

What happens during the treatment?

During your initial consultation, we will spend some time talking to you, analysing your skin, and pinpointing which lines you would like your treatment to address.

When you arrive for your dermal fillers appointment, we will apply a topical anaesthetic cream to your skin to help make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Using an ultra-fine needle, we will then inject a leading brand of dermal fillers directly into your skin to hydrate and add volume to targeted areas of your face.

We have adopted the use of MD CodesTM to help us deliver the best outcomes. Read more about MD CodesTM.

You may choose to have a wrinkle reducing treatment at the same time to temporarily stop specific facial muscles from contracting and causing expressive lines and wrinkles such as crows’ feet or frown lines.

The procedure is very quick and will take about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on which areas of your face we’re treating.

What are MD CodesTM?

World-renowned injector, Dr de Maio, developed MD CodesTM to give aesthetic practitioners a series of formulated injection points for dermal fillers. These points are proven to elevate, rejuvenate and enhance specific treatment areas, while delivering natural-looking results.

MD CodesTM better enable us to take your facial anatomy and facial proportions into account, so that we place the dermal fillers in exactly the right points to give you the best outcomes. Although the MD CodesTM are specially formulated, we can still use the codes that apply to your individual case to create a bespoke, tailor-made treatment.

How soon should I see results?

The results of your treatment will be visible immediately, although you may experience some minor swelling and bruising around the injection sites that will settle down over the next 24 to 48 hours.

How long should the results last?

Most people find that dermal fillers last for four to six months, but some fillers are last for up to 12 to 18 months.

Dermal fillers are popular because they offer long-lasting results but, because they’re not permanent, they give you the option to reassess your needs once the initial effects wear off. After this time, you may decide to have a ‘top-up’ treatment to help you maintain your skin’s youthful appearance.

Are there any side effects?

After dermal filler injections, the most common side effects tend to be bruising, swelling, redness, tenderness or slight bleeding at the injection site, which can take two to three days to vanish completely.

Occasionally, worldwide, allergic reactions have been reported and include redness, hardness at the injection site, and lumps and bumps under the skin. More serious side effects are rare if your injections are carried out by an experienced medical professional. This is why it’s so important to choose a practitioner with the credentials and experience to offer this treatment.

If you regularly suffer from cold sores, do let us know as dermal fillers have sometimes been known to cause flare-ups and we can help you to prevent this.

If you exercise very frequently, we made decide to use Ellanse dermal fillers, as opposed to Juvederm® or Vycross®.

If you have any concerns or questions at all, please do call.

Will I need to take time off after my treatment?

Most people carry on with their day after having dermal fillers, but you may need to take some downtime if you experience swelling or bruising.

Do I need to avoid any activities after the treatment or follow a specific aftercare regime?

You will be given detailed aftercare instructions that relate to your procedure. Generally speaking, after dermal filler injections, we will recommend that you:

  • Take paracetamol if you experience any tenderness
  • Avoid taking Ibuprofen, Aspirin, alcohol or any herbal medications that can affect blood clotting
  • Avoid hot baths, steam rooms or saunas
  • Use an ice pack on the injection sites, if you experience any swelling
  • Use arnica cream or tablets for a few days before and after your treatment to bring out any bruising

Will I have a ‘pillow face’?

This is a common concern and a phrase coined by the media when talking about certain celebrities who appear to have had their faces overfilled at one time or another. Our approach is far more subtle. We believe the ultimate compliment is when your friends and family comment on how youthful and refreshed you look without being able to pinpoint what you’ve done to look so good. Therefore, we use dermal fillers to create natural results and enhance your features.
